HOLIDAY FUN!

As I said in my previous post I have lots and lots of ideas swirling in my head. I can’t wait to have a couple of days to just play and get some things accomplished. See below for a really simple table project....

One of the things I do that has become sort of a tradition is that I decorate the table – I know, I know – not very original to some of you, but this is something that my family never really did. Yes, we had a pretty table cloth and the good china came out, but come on...who has room on their table for lots of pretty shiny things. Well, I do now! You see, for several years now we have hosted family dinners at our house for whoever would like to come. It’s usually one of my sisters and her family, my Mom & Dad and my brother and his family. Since there is a gang now, we had to come up with a way to fit everyone around the table. Oh Lord! One year at Thanksgiving I had two tables set up and it ended up that my brother and his family sat at one table and the rest were at the other. That was the year I decided we all have to sit at one table – no matter what – AND there would be place cards so I can pick where everyone sits...

We now have a makeshift table that combines our everyday table with a fold-up that has wooden pieces holding it up to be at the same height as our other table. Nice huh?! Oh well – whatever works! I then had a really snazzy tablecloth – actually old sheets sewn together by my mother. AND then I get to play around year to year. I have VERY traditional china – I picked when I was young and didn’t know any better – thanks to my mother-in-law Vera, but somehow it works with my table.

Our favourite part of the table/dinner is the crackers. There is nothing more fun than watching grown ups play with little toys and put on party hats. We usually do this after the main meal and before the dessert – just to let all that food settle.
As you can see in the pictures, I added some greenery from my plants (which are now gone by the way) and simple glass balls into a glass vase. Easy, Easy, Easy!

SIMPLE PROJECT: Place tags. Use whatever software you like to type names on an 8 ½” x 11” piece of cardstock and pick a font of your choice and colour of your choice. Print them out, cut them up and fold, punch a hole in the corner and add ribbon. I also add some kind of decoration to the tag. The ones above I stamped a dove (clear stamp that I don’t know the company) and at Thanksgiving I used a watercolour of a leaf that I painted and scanned in. At Christmas I’ve attached the tags to ornaments that I added rub-ons with my guests initials, and I’ve also attached them at Thanksgiving to decorative boxes that were filled with cookies and candy. Have fun! Make them your own.
