Hello Monday! We were up early enough to witness a beautiful sunrise as we traveled the 101 towards Wally's departure. I would imagine leaving in this type of weather is much more enjoyable than freezing or rainy type weather. Either way it's a good by, and I'm sure it can be difficult under any circumstances. This time, in the scheme of things, it is a short one. Hopefully, after a successful workups, they will return on the 27th of May, all in tact, and full of relief that it's done. That they'll get their passing grade and complete one more step towards their deployment in the fall.
We've been through this before. Actually, we've been through this a few times...or so. When we were younger we always thought it would be easier when we were "old". It never gets easier. It is just something we do. One of the hardest parts about a long deployment is the preparation. The schedule is erratic and unpredictable. As I say "in and out". As each day goes by and the deployment date comes closer the safety wall goes up. I can feel myself become a little more distant. I become more quiet. As the time comes near there are explosions of emotions from both. We are aware that it is our defence mechanism. That's how we roll. We both worry too much about the other. That's what we do. We both pretend it's no big deal. But it is.
Last night we talked about it. We always miss each other so much it can hurt. We wouldn't have it any other way. It means that we are connected, and when that connection is a little broken, it can be a lonely place to exist. It means we deeply love each other and will always be there for each other no matter where we may be. That I know for sure.
I have lots and lots to do while Wally is away. My challenge is to actually accomplish the things that need to be done instead of getting stuck in neutral without the most important person in my life here to support me and cheer me on. I'm a little out of practice with this, so I've decided I'll take it easy on me for a bit.

This weekend we went for a drive to Peggy's Cove and came back the old road. It was absolutely beautiful! We happened to be out and about when the sun was highest, which also makes picture taking a major challenge. It's all about the light, and when you have the sun directly overhead you have to be really good to get any decent shots. I'm not there yet, but the photos from the day are still memorable to me.
So, in closing today, I say to Wally and everyone on board "Freddie"...work hard, play hard and be safe. I can't wait to hear all about Charm City Cakes in Baltimore and your adventures at Fleet Week in New York. Finally, Wally, you get some decent ports to visit!
